John Hunter Hospital Southern Carpark
The project involved an addition of 600 spaces to an existing multi-level carpark facility at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. Northrop were approached by John Holland Constructions to provide tender level documents as part of the competitive tender process for the hospital.
Due to site constraints the proposed car park was located on a particularly steep part of the site, which required lateral thinking to achieve an efficient structural and civil design. The final design chosen was not immediately apparent, and winning the project involved close cooperation with John Holland to ensure the build method chosen was the most cost effective whilst achieving a functional car park. Scaffolding, formwork, sediment and erosion control and earthworks were all complicated by the site itself, and dealing with all these constraints were required to win the project.
