Swedish Embassy Upgrade

The project involved a major refurbishment to the existing Swedish Embassy and residence in Canberra. The client was looking to achieve an update for their current aging facility.

The building holds cultural significance and the client was particularly interested to maintain much of the internal fenestration whilst allowing a services and facilities upgrade. The architects challenge was to provide a functional improvement to the building within tight space and client driven constraints. Our challenge was to incorporate a services upgrade within tight space and with limited existing services documentation. Our design incorporated as much reuse of existing services as possible to minimise the services budget.

The buildings were vacated during the works which allowed the builder a degree of freedom that the consultants had not had during the design process.
