Urbanest Student Accommodation North Terrace Adelaide
Our project was a 20-storey new build of student accommodation with lower level retail situated opposite the University of Adelaide. The client sought a modular construction with precast bubble deck and minimal formwork to assist the speed of development.
To lessen the amount of demolition and excavation, we liaised with the builder and architect to reposition columns without removing the existing foundations – still keeping with the architectural intent. We were also able to reduce the size of many large precast panels to reduce the cost of craneage.
After consultation with the geotechnical engineer, we developed a safe procedure for excavation along the existing heritage basement wall plus piling rig clearance along the boundary.
Northrop liaised with the precast shop detailer throughout the design phase to develop the bespoke connection details of the precast wall elements.
The project is due for completion in early 2018.
