West Epping Park Upgrade
Like many Council’s in Sydney, the provision of quality sports facilities is becoming increasingly important to satisfy demands from a healthy and fit community.
This oval upgrade represents a complex and multi-faceted design of a complete facelift for a large urban park in Sydney’s north.
As part of the works, the Stormwater system was investigated with CCTV to determine its condition with the good elements retained and incorporated into an expanded drainage system for the park.
Because the system sits within an existing suburb, downstream properties are at risk of flooding from increased flows. Therefore, the works incorporated a detention basin to hold back all flows up to the 1:100 year storm.
Water quality was also a key consideration and two Gross Pollutant Traps were included to filter out coarse pollution. Within the basin, a sedimentation zone and vegetated bioretention system were included.
The basin sits atop unsuitable landfill material which required detailed geotechnical investigation to design the base, and the 3m high retaining wall structure.
Council will construct the works in stages, commencing in 2016.
