Northrop Board appoints four new Principals

We’re excited to announce the appointment of four new Northrop Principals (owners); Chris Piper, David Bryceson, Ian Van Eerden and Lachlan McRae.

These appointments recognise their contribution and influence as leaders within Northrop and the industry, their passionate commitment to the success of our business, and the value they provide to our clients.

Congratulations to Northrop’s latest Principals!

Chris Piper

Principal | Group Manager and Senior Civil Engineer  | Newcastle

Chris is a civil engineer with over 10 years' experience. He joined Northrop in 2017 and successfully manages one of Newcastle’s civil teams.

Throughout his career, Chris has gained valuable knowledge and experience with high level infrastructure planning, detailed design and cost estimation to project management, construction supervision and contract administration.

He also has extensive experience in the detailed design of civil works including hydrological modelling, hydraulic design, road geometry and pavement design, bulk earthworks, and water/sewer reticulation for development approval and construction certification.

David Bryceson

Principal | Structural Manager | Canberra

David joined Northrop in 2015 and manages our Canberra structural team. He has worked in the industry since 2003 and is experienced in engineering from concept, through detailed design to construction.

David’s responsibilities include delivery of structural design and documentation, and construction liaison for structural engineering works as well as management of multidisciplinary projects. His experience includes multi-storey residential buildings, rail and government infrastructure, warehouses, retail, and mining projects across both the public and private sectors

Ian Van Eerden 

Principal | Group Manager and Senior Sustainability Consultant  | Sydney

Ian joined Northrop as a Senior Sustainability consultant in June 2015 and began his professional career providing sustainability advice to householders wanting to reduce electricity costs as part of the Federal Energy Efficient Homes Program.   

After moving into renewable energy consultancy, Ian set up and managed a program of solar panel inspection across the country for the Clean Energy Regulators. 
 
Ian leads the Sydney Sustainability teams in securing sustainable outcomes for both Northrop and our clients. 

Lachlan McRae

Principal | Group Manager and Senior Civil & Environmental Engineer | Newcastle

Lachlan is a civil and environmental engineer with 20 years design and project management experience in WA and NSW. He joined Northrop in 2017 and manages a team in our Newcastle office.

Lachlan has worked on residential, industrial and commercial projects with a focus on public domain, subdivision and infrastructure design. Passionate about the environment, Lachlan is a proactive leader in finding sustainable design outcomes.

Lachlan’s technical skills include preparation of sewer and water strategies, stormwater investigations and flood modelling, construction certificate design and construction verification and monitoring. Lachlan is a WSAA accredited designer for both water and sewer infrastructure.
