Australian College of Physical Education - Basketball court
The Australian College of Physical Education required an extension to its existing office building that would connect an adjoining basketball court and dance studio with a car park underneath.
The project involved the design of a link bridge, fit out of the office building, and civil design services relating to the new undercroft car park.
Poor ground conditions was a site constraint, and we were required to work within a tight timeframe with minimal disruption to ongoing use of adjacent buildings.
There were specific requirements for long span structural components and proposed usage of the new facility meant we needed to incorporate site-specific vibration features. Our client also required high-quality finishes, which impacted the design of exposed elements.
Northrop was able to meet the prescribed timeframe by keeping to a tight schedule and using a prefabricated concrete and steel structure. It was essential to work in close collaboration with contractors, specifically the pre-cast and piling specialists, to ensure we achieved each project milestone.
