Bourke Street Public School

The $5.5 million project comprises of a two level development with the new Home Bases located on the second level above the Hall, Library and Canteen facilities on ground floor.

The project included a large cantilevering post-tensioned balcony slab, pop-up roofs, sunken suspended landscape slab and large clear span structure over the Hall, all of which added to the visual appearance of the building.

Northrop Engineers were brought into the project via a Contractor to rationalise the structural design. We looked to solutions that complemented the restricted and contaminated site and provided cost and program efficiencies. By redesigning the ground floor and first floor slabs, reducing export materials off-site and redesigning the foundation system, we helped the Contractor reduce costs to win the project.

During the Construction Phase there was an in-ground latent condition, which we responded to quickly and carried out a redesign to allow the builder to keep to the construction programme.
