John Paul College
This project involves the development of a new secondary school, providing year 7 to 12 on a greenfield site in the developing area of Gungahlin.
The client’s main goal was to achieve staged completion to coincide with the commencement of the school year.
The school incorporates many sustainable features, including sub-floor labyrinth, rainwater harvesting and reuse, above ground detention in landscape features, bio-retention treatment of the runoff for each of the carparks.
The staged development posed many challenges, including operational stages next to stages in construction, and future stages yet to be designed. Northrop designed the hydraulic systems to allow for adaptive reuse of the learning spaces in the future. The final stage is currently in construction ready for the 2016 school intake.
