Lake Annan Water Quality Restoration
Lake Annan is an urban water way that suffers from severe water quality degradation and seasonal blue green algae. The community who use the Lake are frequently complaining about algae, pollution and odours. Council’s goal is to improve the lake amenity for the general community and the environment.
Northrop explored a range of options to provide water quality restoration within a tight budget. We retrofitted an existing pollution trap to function better in removing pollution from Lake inflows. And we adopted an experimental approach by employing Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) within the body of the lake. FTWs provide an enhanced pollution sedimentation effect in water bodies in addition to filtering out nutrients.
