Opal Bathurst
Opal's aim for this new 140-bed development was to provide a modern, yet affordable aged care facility to residents of the NSW Central West region.
To meet the tight program timeframes and to reduce the reliance on ‘out of town’ trades, we adopted several pre-cast elements for our design, including load bearing Dincel walls, an Ultra-Floor floor system and prefabricated frames and roof trusses.
With the site adjacent to the Macquarie River, the ground conditions were another challenge. We used the load-bearing walls as deep beams which were spanned between piles to reduce the depth of the ground floor structure.
Overall, the client and project manager recognised our design as a creative solution for a difficult site.
