The Abode Hotel, Canberra

This project saw the adaptive reuse of an existing office building converted into a hotel in the Woden area .The heritage aspect of the building added challenges as the integrity of the building and its integration with its surroundings were a priority.

The development goal was to be the first Green Star Rated and NABERS rated hotel in Australia. The project had a very tight budget, and the sustainability scope was initiated part way into the project.

An innovated design approach was required to make a 1970’s year old building achieve compliance with current standards.

Challenge was getting a Green Star Submission together in the tight build program while managing to feasibly target the right points.

Our open dialogue with the GBCA facilitated smooth and timely responses. This progressed the project according to the tight timeline. The project achieved 4.5 NABERS rating and is on target to achieve the AS Built 4 Star Green Star rating.
