Hydro Majestic Hotel
Northrop worked alongside Taylor Constructions to revitalise this iconic site, having lay dormant for five years. Located in the Blue Mountains this landmark restoration included building refurbishment works associated car parking and reactivation of the grounds.
The nature and location of the site posed challenges. Located on the edge of the Sydney Water drinking catchment, any storm water runoff is to be collected and treated to a high level. The carparking requirements for the hotel are extensive but the client didn’t want the site to resemble the local Kmart.
Using our experience in Water Sensitive Urban design, we designed a water quality treatment train consisting of bio-retention swales and basins in conjunction with gross pollutant traps and a network of rainwater tanks.
The car parking issue was addressed with a natural quartz finish to obtain a pleasing finish, whilst meeting the durability requirements of providing a solid granular pavement base below.
Northrop worked with the builder and the client to workshop options for the pavement prior to coming up with the final solution. We balanced the core requirements, constructability, cost and performance before physical testing was carried out to gain confidence in the chosen solution.
