Northrop appoints three new Principals
We’re excited to announce the appointment of three new Northrop Principals (owners): James Gilligan, Isabel Duffy and Nicholas Boey.
These appointments recognise their contribution and influence as leaders within Northrop and the industry, their passionate commitment to the success of our business, and the value they provide to our clients.

James Gilligan - PRINCIPAL | CIVIL SECTION MANAGER
James is a senior civil engineer with over ten years’ experience managing and delivering buildings and complex civil infrastructure projects requiring design from the concept phase through to construction and post construction stages. He joined Northrop in 2017.
James also has particular experience in project management and contract administration. James’ technical background includes civil design of utilities, earthworks, stormwater and roads for subdivision and buildings projects across all types of development including education, residential, commercial and industrial.
Isabel Duffy - PRINCIPAL | BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER | GROUP MANAGER | STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
Isabel is Northrop’s Sydney Region Business Development Manager, working with our client stakeholders to develop and implement new business strategy. Over her 9 years with Northrop, she has had a wide range of project experience as a structural engineer, moving through to managing technical teams within our business.
Contributing to the construction and property industries has always been important to Isabel, who sits on the PCA Future Directions and Inner West Property Group committees. Isabel is also a strong advocate for encouraging women into engineering and has worked with Engineers Australia and UNSW on several school and university initiatives in this area, including a term chairing the National Young Engineers Australia committee and regular presentations at high schools across Sydney. Nicholas Boey - PRINCIPAL | STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
Nick joined Northrop as an undergraduate in 2012 and as a graduate in 2014 after graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Engineering, a Bachelor of Design in Architecture and a University Medal.
Committed to providing practical solutions, Nick has worked as a structural design engineer and Job Manager on a wide range of projects, including commercial offices, low-rise and high-rise residential apartments, industrial warehousing and institutional buildings. He has a particular interest in designing architecturally sensitive structures and loves to solve complex technical problems.
As technical manager of the Sydney Structural section, Nick is passionate about Northrop’s design capabilities and has contributed to the research undertaken to develop our capacity to design high-bay warehouse slabs and modern engineered timber buildings.
