Joe O’Brien
As a Principal Structural Engineer, Joe bring a broad range of experience to the table - from schools and high-end resi to $1b health precincts, he's focused on building relationships and making a difference.
Starting Northrop’s Brisbane office in 2006, Joe is passionate about building a strong team culture. His sense of humour and occasional headstand are testament to how he lives and breathes our mission – add value, enjoy the journey and get it done.
Joe takes a collaborative approach, working with architects to design sustainable and efficient structural systems using concrete, steel, masonry and timber. He also works with suppliers of multi-storey modular units and prefabricated buildings to help builders meet their programs.
His experience also includes significant adaptive reuse of existing buildings. He is particularly interested in projects that focus on sustainability and regenerative design outcomes. Joe believes the future of structural design is incorporating climate resilience in all aspects of the building life cycle.
