Ian’s clients value his creativity, problem-solving skills, and personal commitment to their projects. Joining Northrop as a Structural Engineer in 2013, Ian led our Sydney Structural Section before building our Facades, Heritage and Remedial engineering teams, which he now manages. He is still active on projects, as a registered Design Practitioner and Chartered Engineer.

Ian is motivated to develop people to their full potential and to engage in Northrop’s continual evolution. He’s an active mentor in our Sydney region, in particular for our emerging leaders, and is an advocate for women in our business. His strategic approach has helped our Business Development and Operational functions grow, always bringing lateral thinking to the table to add energy and value.

Ian joined the board as a director in November 2023. With a focus on risk management and financial governance, his expertise helps the company navigate risks and opportunities, and maintain strong, steady operations. Ian’s oversight protects shareholder interests and ensures the company operates fairly and responsibly.

Ian has also founded Northrop’s ‘Disruption Lab’, a technology-driven space for experimental development that improves how Northrop delivers for clients across our engineering disciplines. He manages this team, alongside his senior structural engineering role, on some of our most complex projects, including heritage alterations, vertical schools, hospitals and high-rise commercial towers.
