Real Partnerships: Optimising Connectivity through Buildings
Accessible and Reliable Lift Designs for Easier Building Movement
How do we approach a vertical transport project? We don’t just tick code boxes – we assess spatial needs, coordinate with building services, and specify systems that make sense for the building’s use and lifecycle. Our work includes return briefs, traffic analysis, space planning and tender support.
Our vertical transport team sits within Northrop’s Integrated Buildings division, working alongside architects, builders, developers and government clients to deliver performance-based lift designs that are practical, compliant, and cost-effective. We support commercial, residential, education, health, and civic projects — from early planning through to commissioning.
What sets us apart? It’s how we collaborate – we understand the impact of a lift core and work with other designers to find a solution that solves common problems. We think outside the box for projects to find the thread that brings multiple problems together into a single solution.
Clients trust us because we’re practical and focused on delivering lift systems that work — not just on paper, but in the real world.

We want to understand the drivers of the building and respond to its specific context. Lifts that become part of the character of a building and allow equitable access are what drives us.Shaun Burgess
Primary Vertical Transport Services
We offer performance-based vertical transport design services that respond to each project’s unique needs. From spatial planning and code compliance reviews to performance specifications for D&C tenders, our process is structured, consultative, and backed by real-world understanding. We help define shaft dimensions, car sizes, pit depths, and overruns early to suit the budget and building needs.
We coordinate with architectural and services teams to ensure lifts work in harmony with the building’s layout – not in conflict with it. We also review lift subcontractor proposals, shop drawings and technical submissions to confirm alignment with the brief, and we carry out site inspections and defect reviews to support quality control.
By keeping our focus on performance, coordination, and constructability, we help clients avoid scope gaps, reduce on-site changes, and confidently deliver vertical transport solutions that meet the building’s operational demands.
