On 26 February 1976, Murray Northrop founded Northrop Consulting Engineers.
What began as a small practice built on strong relationships and technical excellence has grown into a national engineering consultancy with offices across Australia.
Fifty years on, the foundations remain the same. We believe good engineering is grounded in accountability, collaboration and doing the right thing. We value long-term partnerships and are invested in the outcomes we help deliver.
Over five decades, we’ve worked alongside clients to deliver projects that shape communities, strengthen infrastructure and enable growth across cities and regions. Behind each project are engineers, designers and advisors who care deeply about the quality of their work and the impact it has on the people who use it. It’s how we’ve always worked, and it’s what continues to define Northrop: real people, real partnerships and real impact.
As an employee-owned business, our people don’t simply work at Northrop.
They contribute to its direction, share in its success and carry forward the culture Murray established in 1976. That shared responsibility continues to define how we operate today.
This year, we celebrate 50 years of extraordinary. Extraordinary projects, extraordinary partnerships and, above all, extraordinary people who have shaped Northrop across five decades.
It marks the beginning of a year reflecting on where we’ve come from and looking ahead to what’s next.
Fifty years is a meaningful milestone. It reflects the trust placed in us by clients, the commitment of our people and the consistency of our approach over time.
We’re proud of our history, confident about our future and committed to continuing the extraordinary work that defines Northrop.
