Climate Change Adaptation Project
- Sustainability
The Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice is a pioneering hospice in Australia that provides specialised care for 15 to 24-year-old patients with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families. The hospice offers customised respite care, symptom management, end-of-life care, and care coordination support during the transition from children’s to adult services.
Located on a portion of the former Manly Hospital site, the hospice has 8 beds, entry reception, patient care and support areas, non-clinical support, family and outdoor areas, ambulatory zone, and family accommodation. Northrop provided all engineering services, including Acoustics, Civil, Electrical, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Structural, and Sustainability.
Access to the site was a challenge due to its location – bordering the national park – and the need to negotiate access with the Department of Planning and Environment. Other site complexities included negotiations with authorities over a private sewer and the discovery of an Ausgrid easement.
This was a complex project with many moving parts, and the success of it is credited to the fantastic project team who worked collaboratively to achieve the best outcome: world-class healthcare facilities in a tranquil and homely environment.
This facility is being viewed as a model for similar facilities across the country and Northrop is proud to have helped deliver it.
