Over the last 10 years Northrop have partnered with Graph Building on a number of projects throughout the Hunter Region. This long-standing relationship has allowed us to create high-quality, sustainable, and impactful projects, while enhancing communities and businesses alike
The NSW Government established the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund (HIIF) in 2011 with the aim to enhance the Hunter region’s infrastructure and support economic growth. In 2016 the Newcastle International Hockey Club were successful recipients of $10m funding from Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund to upgrade the Broadmeadow facility which is used to host major hockey tournaments and international events.
The upgrades to the facility took place over two stages consisting of:
– The addition of Building A and Building B, both buildings housing a Function spaces equipped with a kitchen and bar areas, Amenities and change rooms, Pro-shop and offices. The new buildings have been elevated with flooding in mind, to provide safe refuge in major events.
– Accessible routes for less able users were provided to the new buildings and carparking areas.
– An improved stormwater network which provides sufficient detention to minimise increasing downstream flows and also provides several water quality improvement devices to treat stormwater before it discharges from the site.
– A new maintenance building, tiered seating to the playing fields, new car parking, drainage system, the installation of new LED lighting to the fields, and
– The refurbishment of the Tournament Facility Building, renovation of the dug outs and upgrades to the existing services on site.
As the Hockey club was still operating and providing servicing their members during the construction process it was planned that the construction would be completed over two stages to enable the construction to work in with the scheduled games at the venue to and to limit any disruptions.
The upgraded facility aims to increase more local and international competitions making Hockey in the Hunter region more accessible, competitive, and attractive while hoping to bring a new light to the sport attracting a new generation of players.
