Partnership

The George Centre, developed through a partnership between Acurio Health Group and HealthCo, is set to become one of Sydney’s largest private maternity and paediatric hospitals. Northrop played a key role in delivering the project, providing integrated civil, façade, and structural services. Through effective collaboration with the architect, Anthony Vavayis & Associate Architect, and builder, Buildcorp, we co-developed innovative solutions that led to significant cost savings and successfully brought the complex architectural design to life.

Project

The George Centre is strategically positioned at the intersection of Gregory Hills Drive and The Hermitage Way, serving as a cutting-edge private healthcare facility at the forefront of medical innovation. Designed to address the growing healthcare needs of the rapidly expanding South-West Sydney community, this landmark project marks the first phase of a transformative three-part initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare standards both regionally and beyond. Spanning five storeys and 10,000 sqm, the hospital offers an extensive range of services, including:

52 beds for adults and children

A 27-bed private maternity unit with 4 birthing suites

5 operating theatres and 2 endoscopic theatres

Day surgery facilities

Imaging and pathology services

A multi-storey car park with 215 spaces

Outdoor seating and recreation areas

Delivery

Our team executed fully coordinated Building Integration Modelling with all consultants to ensure the seamless installation of a complex network of services without compromising the project’s ambitious architectural goals. With our flexible design approach, we incorporated pre-cast, AFS, and traditional RC wall designs in various areas of the hospital and car park, meeting structural, architectural, and constructability goals while adhering to the highest seismic design standards.

Our design of PT and RC concrete floors met stringent vibration requirements not only for standard surgeries but also for specialist imaging equipment and cast-in suspended systems for the operating theatres, ensuring the project’s structural integrity and promoting the hospital’s mission to serve the community.

Impact

Thanks to the outstanding outcomes achieved at The George, Northrop was engaged to take on additional health projects on neighbouring sites. This expansion of medical services in the area reaffirms our commitment to enhancing the well-being of the community and underscores our ongoing dedication to delivering excellence in healthcare.

“Acknowledging that healthcare will become a universal need in our lifetimes, we take immense pride in our role in a project dedicated to raising healthcare standards and creating a lasting impact within our local community and beyond.”
