Real Partnerships: Considered sustainable lighting for function and emotional impact

Harnessing the power of light to enhance the atmosphere in the built environment

Lighting is more than just illumination, it’s how people experience space, feel comfort, navigate safely, and respond emotionally to their surroundings. At Northrop, we understand that the best lighting design is a balance between compliance, creativity, and constructability.

As part of Northrop’s Integrated Building group, we collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, builders, and project stakeholders to design lighting solutions that work – technically and aesthetically. From concept to handover, we support projects across multiple sectors including education, health, commercial, civic, and aged care.

We handle internal and external lighting layouts, control systems, emergency and exit lighting, feature and bespoke lighting. We also think beyond code – offering design input that enhances user comfort, supports energy performance, and elevates the overall experience of each space.

What makes us stand out? Our responsiveness, our ability to speak the language of both engineers and designers, and our practical approach that keeps both compliance and creativity front of mind.

Lighting is one of those elements that brings a space to life — and I love being part of the team that makes that happen. We get to blend creativity with compliance, and work alongside architects, designers and engineers to create something that genuinely affects how people feel in a space. It’s rewarding, it’s collaborative, and there’s always something new to learn.

Internal Lighting Design

We approach internal design to meet function and design intent. Through conceptual and architectural design through to highly function-focused approaches, we ensure that the lighting systems align with the needs of each space.

External Lighting Design

Through experience and technical modelling, we review, design, implement and verify external lighting for a wide array of uses. From highly complicated environments, sporting and landscape design we have the tools to work with you through any project needs.

Independent Verification

We draw on our experience and the belief that all good ideas can be tested and challenged to get the best outcome. We review existing installations, design and proposals to ensure the right outcomes are achieved.
