Northrop partnered with Nine Studios, through client representative LPC Project Services, to deliver the design and construction of their new fit-out within the iconic Australian Parliament House. Spanning 500sqm, our client required a sleek, contemporary workspace that integrated seamlessly with the building’s heritage character while accommodating the highly technical requirements of a modern broadcast.

The design incorporated meeting rooms purpose-built for privacy, shared breakout spaces that offered a comfortable extension of the work environment, and an open-plan office that maximised natural light. Achieving the right balance between modern design aspirations and heritage constraints required early engagement, proactive problem-solving, and close collaboration with all project stakeholders.
Northrop’s deep understanding of the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) framework was critical in navigating the approvals process and ensuring that all parties were informed and aligned on design changes and heritage considerations.

Technical challenges were carefully addressed through bespoke engineering solutions, from meeting stringent acoustic requirements for studio spaces, to integrating advanced electrical systems for workstations and editing suites, to coordinating infrastructure such as high-bandwidth fiber cabling, GPS antennas, and sophisticated lighting controls. Additional complexities, including major stormwater infrastructure in the tenancy areas and heritage-sensitive fire safety systems, were resolved through meticulous design coordination.
