The Woolworths Leppington development delivers a modern neighbourhood retail hub designed to support rapid population growth in Sydney’s south-west.
Northrop has built a long-standing and trusted relationship with the Woolworths Group through consistent delivery, open communication, and a deep understanding of their sustainability ambitions. Across multiple sites, our team has become Woolworths’ preferred sustainability partner, valued for our proactive approach and the continuity we bring to each project.
Our involvement at Leppington Village grew from an initial Section J compliance scope. By researching Woolworths’ Sustainability Plan and identifying the opportunity for a Green Star rating early, before it was raised by the project manager, we demonstrated strategic insight and strengthened our role as a key advisor.
Leppington Village was envisioned as a new retail heart for one of Sydney’s fastest-growing regions, bringing convenience and connection to a developing community. The $72 million precinct features a full-line Woolworths supermarket, more than 30 specialty stores, cafés, restaurants, essential services and a suspended commercial office. Designed as a welcoming local hub, the project places sustainability at its core to deliver a modern, future-focused retail environment.
Delivering Leppington Village required resilience, collaboration and a willingness to adapt. Much of the early coordination took place during the height of COVID-19, with the team shifting seamlessly to remote kick-off meetings and digital workshops to keep momentum strong. When severe weather later threatened progress, clear communication and fast problem-solving helped the team stay on track.
Throughout the process, Northrop led the sustainability pathway—shaping the strategies and assessments that ultimately delivered a 5-Star Green Star rating. From the 650-panel solar PV system to recycled brickwork and EV charging infrastructure, each initiative was carefully integrated to ensure the project met Woolworths’ environmental goals and created long-term value for the community.
Since opening, Leppington Village has quickly become a lively meeting place for the community—a destination where people shop, eat, connect and access everyday services. Its modern, energy-efficient design is already delivering meaningful environmental benefits while creating a comfortable, welcoming experience for locals. The project’s success has also been recognised across the industry, earning multiple awards that reflect not only the quality of the development but the strength of the collaboration behind it.
