Gemma Wood

Newcastle
Associate | Group Manager | Environment

Gemma Wood is an Associate and Group Manager in our Newcastle office, leading a team of engineers, designers and drafters with calm confidence and a genuine passion for people. She’s a civil and environmental engineer who loves the practical, hands‑on problem‑solving side of stormwater management, and the way thoughtful design can make places more resilient, welcoming and easier for communities to enjoy.

Since joining Northrop, Gemma has worked across a wide range of projects – from public domain upgrades and residential subdivisions to commercial and education developments. She’s often the main point of contact for partners, bringing clarity, structure and a friendly, down‑to‑earth style to every stage of a project. Her technical experience covers water quality modelling, hydraulic design, development documentation and construction inspections, giving her a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle.

Gemma is committed to building a supportive and energetic team culture. She’s passionate about improving diversity in the industry and loves seeing people grow in confidence and capability. Her leadership style is people‑first: collaborative, steady and focused on giving her team the space, direction and encouragement they need to do their best work.

Outside the office, Gemma enjoys getting creative with pottery, exploring new hiking trails, playing touch footy and settling in for a boardgame night with friends. She brings enthusiasm and authenticity to everything she does – both in her project work and in the relationships she builds across the business.
