What is your favourite thing about working at Northrop, and what keeps you passionate every day?

I love the people I work with. There is a real sense of family in the Brisbane office and everyone in the team is always there for one another. Whether it’s jumping in to help on a project deadline or when we come together to celebrate a personal or project milestone,  there is always a sense of ‘we are in this together’.

What inspires and motivates you at work? How do you use this in your role leading people to inspire others?

The Northrop team and projects we work on motivate me every day. I am inspired to create a positive, motivating team environment whilst providing people with the support to achieve their own personal career ambitions. I always encourage people to step up when they feel comfortable. Whether that be running a design co-ordination meeting for the first time, conducting a site meeting or attending a business development opportunity. I am passionate about empowering people to believe in themselves and their ability.

What advice would you give to young professionals aspiring to take on leadership roles in the consulting profession?

Go for it and back yourself. Be empathetic, honest and strive for leadership roles that allow you to be true to your authentic self.

On a more personal note, what is a hobby or interest outside of work that you are passionate about, and how does it influence your approach to your career?

My hobbies outside of work revolve around travel, food and coffee. I love being surrounded by different landscapes and cities. I enjoy exploring a new city walking around with a latte in hand commenting on how strange stormwater infrastructure can be in different places around the world. I also love spending time with family and friends on the weekend trying new restaurants and coffee spots in Brisbane. I have included a couple of photos from one of my recent trips to New York.

Can you share a pivotal moment or project in your career that significantly shaped your professional development and perspective?

Prior to moving to Northrop 4 years ago I had been at the same consultancy my whole career and had reached a level where I was seeking further growth and experience. I knew that it was vital for my career to take the next step, leave my comfort zone and be inspired by new projects and new challenges within a company that prioritises career development.
