Rodney Pratt

Principal | Structural Section Manager

Rod is Wollongong’s passionate Structural team lead—someone who truly loves what he does. In his words, "Structural engineering is the funnest job in the world." With nearly two decades of experience, he brings deep expertise across various building types, including community, high-density residential and commercial projects, turning complex challenges into innovative solutions.

He has been involved in numerous projects with heritage-listed buildings and enjoys the rigour of working with existing structures and enhancing their use. Rod enjoys working closely with architects to understand their vision and how the building structure can work to complement it.
In addition to leading Northrop’s Structural team in Wollongong, he has been extensively involved in undergraduate and graduate recruitment across Sydney and Wollongong over the years and is committed to mentoring the next generation of engineers. Along the way, he’s impacted projects like the Wellington Correctional Centre and the Powerhouse Museum Discovery Centre.

Rod’s knack for building lasting client relationships and passion for collaboration make him a trusted partner in the industry. When he’s not engineering, you’ll find him surfing, drawing, enjoying a glass of red wine or at home with his family.
