West Epping Oval
Northrop was engaged by Hornsby Council to assist with design of a refurbished sports complex in West Epping. Council planned to build a new sporting facility to accommodate cricket, football with ancillary sports such as tennis. The synthetic sports field design is to FIFA specifications. As part of the design, new intersections and road access was required, in addition to car parking and a landscaped child play area.
It was essential to ensure a balancing of cut and fill across the site. The design also needed to accommodate existing services (communication towers), poor sub-grade, flooding issues and community concerns. A flood detention and water quality basin was a feature of the design, with dam-break assessment required to minimise risk to downstream residents.
We worked responsively and proactively with Hornsby Council through the design process. A subsequent change to LGA boundaries caused us to adjust our design package documentation to meet the requirements of Parramatta Council – the new owner of the site. We worked closely with the contractor and Council to resolve construction issues.
