The NextDC S2 facility represents the next stage in our ongoing relationship with Multiplex and NextDC. Following our work on the S1 facility, our role on S2 reflects the strong partnerships and trust built through previous collaborations.
Located in the heart of Macquarie Park, S2 is a fault-tolerant, Tier IV data centre delivering 30MW of capacity. Designed and built to the highest standards of security and reliability, it offers extensive interconnectivity options to support mission-critical applications.
Unlike many data centres located in industrial estates, S2 is embedded within the urban environment, combining proximity to customers with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.
Northrop’s civil team, working directly with Multiplex, led the response to stormwater and flooding challenges inherent to the Macquarie Park area. Drawing on our deep local experience and close collaboration with City of Ryde Council, we shaped public domain designs that addressed overland flow and flooding from upstream catchments. Flood storage solutions were integrated along the site’s periphery to minimise impacts on neighbouring properties and enhance site resilience.
Our civil design was supported by a dedicated structural team, ensuring project-specific civil infrastructure was seamlessly coordinated. This integrated approach provided Multiplex with a streamlined and effective final design.
Situated in the heart of Macquarie Park, S2 is a landmark in digital infrastructure. Unlike conventional data centres hidden within industrial estates, it integrates proudly into the urban community, ensuring accessibility and connectivity for customers. Through its cutting-edge design, S2 combines reliability and performance with a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, setting a new benchmark for data centres in Australia.
