Partnership

Northrop has partnered with CKDS to support the governments vision in providing accessible, affordable and quality housing for people in need. Our extensive experience in the multi-residential sector has been pivotal for us to design and deliver critical residential infrastructure projects for the people of New South Wales (NSW).

Project

The New South Wales Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) is collaborating with the Women’s Housing Company to develop a specialised housing project in Maroubra, targeting older women at risk of homelessness.
This initiative addresses the growing need for secure and supportive housing for single women over the age of 55, a demographic increasingly seeking housing assistance due to factors such as domestic violence, separation, loss of a partner, retirement, or sudden health issues.
Key Features of the Maroubra Development:
Resident-Centric Design: The units are thoughtfully designed to foster a supportive, communal environment, featuring:
A common room and landscaped areas to encourage social interaction among residents.
Step-free access to ground-floor apartments, enhancing mobility and safety.
Adaptable apartments suitable for wheelchair users, ensuring inclusivity.
Design elements aimed at eliminating trip hazards, prioritizing resident safety.
Strategic Location: Situated in Maroubra, the development offers easy access to public transportation, shopping centres, medical facilities, and other essential services, ensuring residents can maintain independence and connectivity within the community.

Delivery

Through frequent consultations, we ensured that the building’s design and material selection met critical requirements, including fire safety compliance, durability, low maintenance, and architectural integrity.
A key focus was on accessibility; the design incorporates step-free access to ground-floor apartments and adaptable units suitable for wheelchair users, enhancing mobility and safety.
This strategic approach aims to promote dignity, security, and community integration for older women facing housing challenges, providing them with a supportive and communal living environment.

Impact

“The Maroubra housing project by the NSW LAHC is poised to make a significant impact on the community, particularly for older women facing housing challenges. By providing secure, accessible, and supportive housing, this initiative not only addresses the immediate need for affordable accommodation but also fosters a sense of dignity and community integration among residents. The project’s thoughtful design and strategic location ensure that tenants have access to essential services and opportunities, contributing to their overall well-being and stability. This development exemplifies LAHC’s commitment to delivering housing solutions that cater to the diverse needs of vulnerable populations, promoting social inclusion and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.”
