Northrop partnered with TAFE NSW, Principal PM, SHAC and then subsequently A W Edwards to deliver upgrades to the Coffs Harbour Education Campus. We provided structural and civil engineering services to support the delivery of new and refurbished facilities across the campus. The partnership focused on integrating modern educational infrastructure with the existing built environment, supporting long-term flexibility, functionality and cultural relevance in the design.
The Coffs TAFE Upgrades project is part of TAFE NSW’s broader optimisation strategy. It includes construction of a new Creative Arts building and refurbishment of existing teaching spaces, staff amenities and shared outdoor areas. The project also involves relocation of several key programs from the former Glenreagh Street campus. Northrop’s role included supporting stakeholder consultation processes, including engagement with the Gumbaynggirr people to reflect cultural heritage in the physical design.
Northrop provided full structural and civil engineering services to support the design and delivery of the TAFE Coffs Harbour upgrade. Our work included assessment of existing buildings, structural design for the new Creative Arts facility, and coordination of civil infrastructure upgrades across the site. We worked closely with SHAC, Principal PM and the builder A W Edwards throughout the project lifecycle to ensure constructability, compliance, and seamless integration with existing campus infrastructure. The project required careful planning around site access, staging and minimising disruption to ongoing campus activities. Northrop’s input supported both long-term durability and flexibility of the built form while ensuring that infrastructure aligned with stakeholder needs, site conditions and regulatory requirements.
The Coffs Harbour campus upgrade has delivered a significant improvement to TAFE NSW’s regional facilities. The new and refurbished spaces enhance learning and teaching outcomes by providing adaptable, high-quality environments for students and staff. The addition of modern infrastructure also supports increased enrolment capacity and program diversity. Civil upgrades improved site usability and connectivity, while engineering input helped deliver efficient and low-maintenance solutions suitable for the campus setting. Engagement with the local Gumbaynggirr community ensured the design also reflects the cultural values of the area.
