Northrop is proud to have partnered with the Property Industry Foundation (PIF) and The Salvation Army to deliver Haven House South Dowling—an initiative designed to provide safe and dignified housing for young Australians experiencing homelessness. This project is part of ‘The Haven Project,’ which brings together the construction industry to help tackle youth homelessness by creating secure, long-term accommodation solutions.
With over 46,000 young Australians homeless each year, and many turned away from crisis accommodation every night, projects like Haven House South Dowling are critical. Located in inner-city Sydney, this development provides a secure and supportive living environment, offering young residents access to essential social services to help rebuild their lives.
Northrop contributed pro bono Structural and Civil engineering services to deliver:
Nine two-bedroom apartments and one one-bedroom apartment
Communal spaces and meeting rooms for resident support programs
A cost-effective and durable design to maximise long-term impact
Overcoming Challenges with Smart Solutions
Cost and Durability
The unique funding model—50% donation-based and 50% leveraged from PIF’s property and construction network—meant cost-efficiency was paramount. Our team delivered smart engineering solutions that ensured longevity without compromising safety or comfort.
Collaboration for Community Impact
The success of Haven House South Dowling is a testament to industry collaboration. Northrop worked closely with PIF, The Salvation Army, and key construction partners to deliver a high-quality outcome that aligns with our commitment to corporate social responsibility.
By contributing our engineering expertise, we’ve helped create more than just a building—we’ve supported a long-term solution for youth in need, strengthening the social fabric of our communities.
Haven House South Dowling stands as a model for how the industry can come together to drive meaningful social change—one home at a time.
