LEES1 is an eight-storey mixed laboratory and teaching facility space at Sydney University. Northrop worked closely with the builder, Richard Crookes Construction through an early contractual involvement to develop a competitive tender design and procure the project.
One challenge of the site was its proximity to an existing bridge and several protected fig trees, which led to the design of a cantilevered shoring solution.

Part of the works also required that an existing substation in the adjacent Carslaw building be decommissioned and reinstated. Northrop took a lead role in working with the design team and Ausgrid to develop a solution that could be constructed within the existing building.

Close and frequent collaboration with the architect, builder and design team has resulted in a design solution that is well-documented and within budget.
