Randwick Equine Centre, Horsley Park
Randwick Equine Centre relocated from Randwick to a new site at Horsley Park. The new centre is located off a TfNSW operated road (Wallgrove Road) and to facilitate entry to the new site, it was necessary to upgrade Wallgrove Road with a deceleration lane and slip-lane, as well as upgrades to the adjoining Council road. Northrop provided design and construction TfNSW project verification services for these works.
The slip-lane was designed and constructed to the requirements of the TfNSW R83- Concrete Pavement Base Specification. The interfaces between the new pavement and the existing Wallgrove Road pavement (which was particularly degraded), was a significant challenge, and Northrop worked closely with our client and the design team to define the interface. The presence of two high pressure gas mains and services easement running through the site provided additional challenges for the team to work through. We reviewed and approved a services protection detail, impacting the pavements, so that a road could be safely constructed over the assets.
Delivered in just 10 months, our team facilitated the smooth progression of the construction process by guiding the private developer (REC), our client and the contractor through the often-complex TfNSW processes to achieve the best project outcomes.
