Westmead Hospital - Kid's Research Institute
The Kids Research Institute at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead is located in the Kerry Packer and Clinical Science Building. The project involved changes to the staff office accommodation and included a complete refurbishment and move to an Activity Based Working environment as well as new meeting and social spaces and a new purpose-built paediatric clinical trials facility. Northrop worked closely with the project team through the extensive design phase. To accommodate the significant changes in use for the facility, upgrades to the air conditioning and electrical infrastructure were carried out along with specific structural inclusions to accommodate a new floor plate addition. Northrop’s structural engineers worked with novel designs so that the wet concrete trade was limited, and construction program was reduced.
