Renwick Street Park

The Renwick Street playground in Alexandria was recently upgraded to make it a more enjoyable space for children and families. Landscape architects, Corkery Consulting, engaged Northrop to provide Civil and Structural services on the project.

The client’s goal was to reinvigorate an urban pocket park to make it more amenable to the community. At Northrop, we love working on projects that improve the livability of a suburb.

The site itself was flat and difficult to drain, and there was a lack of infrastructure present in the surrounding streets. We initially connected the stormwater to the kerb but were forced to change our strategy to work within council requirements.

We also needed to allow for several heritage features on the site and worked closely with the landscape architect providing good advice to incorporate into his design.

The community was delighted with the playground’s new appearance, and our work supported the creative flair of the landscaper providing functionality and safety.

The park is a welcomed piece of green infrastructure and open space in an otherwise congested urban environment. It was opened by Councillor Clover Moore in September 2016 and has been a highlight in the community.
