Rowe Street East Car Park

Rowe Street East is a 5 storey split-level short stay car park in Eastwood to service the vibrant Rowe Street shopping strip. The new car park will improve accessibility to the area, address the existing parking shortage and help boost the local economy. The development includes a passenger lift, CCTV security system, accessible car spaces, number plate recognition car park management system and an EV charging station.

Northrop were engaged in a multi-disciplinary capacity to deliver this complex project. The project has been designed with the capacity to add another level of parking and a community facility in the future to suit the changing needs of the local community.

The site was fully constrained, with buildings on two boundaries and vehicular access points on other two sides. Maintaining vehicular access points whilst tying in with the split levels posed a challenge for our civil team which they were able to solve by collaborating closely with the structural team to maintain minimum clearances. The boundary-to-boundary building also required a holistic stormwater design with the hydraulic and civil teams working closely together to integrate their solutions. The slab design was optimised to balance large spans and cantilevers and reduce the number of columns (and increase parking capacity).

Our building services team put their heads together to design innovative services which would address current requirements and be easily adapted to serve the future requirements of the space.

The overall success of this services-heavy and cohesive car park design is a direct result of exceptional collaboration and understanding between each Northrop discipline.
