599 Swanston Street, Melbourne
The project is a mixed-use development with a 583-bed student accommodation amenity in the heart of Carlton. Urbanest wished to add the building to its existing student housing portfolio, bringing its vast experience as a facility developer/operator to the forefront.
The building is a tall and narrow structure located on the busy corner of Swanston and Queensbury Streets. The proposed structure would also include an existing heritage listed retail outlet.
Northrop assisted with the Structural, Civil and Building Services requirements of the project. We found we were able to design and implement innovative solutions through the extensive shared experience of both Northrop and Urbanest in this sector.
Northrop worked with contractor, Icon to achieve the principal project requirements while modifying our designs to suit construction methodologies and the local subcontractor base.
We also liaised with local authorities to obtain necessary approvals within the timeframe required for the commencement of construction.
The project is currently in construction with Northrop awarded an administrative role on behalf of Icon. The project is due for completion by February 2018.
